TAKING their chances in the final third has been the difference between the Bulls winning and losing in the last week, says midfielder Tommy O’Sullivan.

Following their FA Cup exit on Tuesday night the Bulls fell to a narrow defeat at the hands of bottom three side Bradford (Park Avenue) on Saturday.

“It’s disappointing to come all the way up here and going home with nothing,” said 24-year-old O’Sullivan following the 3-2 defeat in Yorkshire.

“We expected to come here and put in a performance really and come away with a point if it’s not three, something to go home and be proud of.

“We didn’t do that today. I think in the second half we came out and needed a reaction, we needed to score the next goal which we didn’t do.

“The space was there in midfield, I did get on the ball a lot and it allowed us to get further up into the final third but we didn’t create enough or weren’t clinical enough in that box or around the box to get the goal.

“Before today we didn’t concede a goal in four games, I think we just need to be more clever in our decisions at times and manage a game when we’re ahead.

“We need to score when we’re on top, that’s one thing even in mid-week we were on top and didn’t get that goal, sometimes it can go the other way against you then.

“We changed formation at times and today we put plenty of crosses into the box, it was just the quality in the final third really which is the difference between scoring and not scoring.

“I think that was just the difference today. We didn’t start right or how we should have.

“We went 2-0 down so It’s something we’ve got to look at and put right as we can’t start like that again otherwise we’re not doing how we should have.

O’Sullivan previously worked with new manager Russell Slade at Cardiff and has regained his starting place in the Hereford side since his arrival.

“He’s come in and made an impression on everyone, the squad is big and everyone is biting at each other’s heels because everyone wants to play,” added O’Sullivan.

“You earn your shirt, it’s just disappointing we lost today really. Over the summer there has been a lot of new players in, some have stayed, you have to prove yourself all the time and you can’t just expect anything from anyone. We have got to keep working.

It’s a tough league and it will chew you up, so you do have to step up if you’re given the opportunity and take it.

“We’ll look to turn it around now and will be back in training in the week. We’ve just got to come back with another performance now and get more points on the board and keep going in the same direction now.

O’Sullivan netted on the 57th minute with a volley which flew into the net, but the midfielder said he didn’t have time to celebrate as his side chased the equaliser that never came.

“It just came across the box and I could see Symons had a flick and I’ve seen some space at the back post,” added O’Sullivan.

“The defender jumped but he wasn’t quite getting it and it just feel quite nicely. I just thought I had to hit it.

“I did want to enjoy it, but I thought we were going to go on and get another goal so had to get back.”
