LEDBURY Rugby Club will be hosting a hotly-contested cross-border rugby derby this Friday (October 11).

The first XV rugby teams at Monmouth School for Boys and Malvern College will meet under the lights at the Ross Road venue (7.15pm kick-off).

Monmouth won the inaugural Border Shield fixture in 2017 when they triumphed 31-23 in an action-packed derby.

Around 500 people watched last year as Malvern claimed the bragging rights, edging to a 28-22 success.

Last weekend Ledbury were in league action with a 30-17 win over Old Leamingtonians.

Aaron James opened the scoring for the hosts after running over in the corner early in the tie.

After the visitors came back into the tie second row Ed Bennion pulled his side level at 17-17.

With the clock running down, Leamingtonians had the opportunity to put the game out of reach with a penalty, which was missed - and with minutes remaining Ledbury bagged two tries through Ryan Brown and Terry Bees.
