NINE hours of fierce competition saw another five titles decided at Brimfield and Little Hereford Bowling Club.

Ashley Edwards, celebrating his 31st birthday, teamed up with Barbara Griffiths in the Barnet Bowl and the deadly duo raced to a 11-0 lead against Brian Draper and Marian Wheatley.

The gap was never closer than eight and Edwards and Griffiths ran out 20-7 winners.

Game of the day came next, Karen Tandler, Lynne Allen and Craig Webb up against Helen Skinner, Richard Powell and Cyril Wait in the John Collett.

Excellent draw bowling meant there was only one shot in it after 14 ends but excellent finishing saw Webb’s team home 24-12, the final score hardly reflecting how close the game had been.

After lunch, Lynne and Jim Allen took an early 4-0 lead against Helen Skinner and Cyril Wait in the Tandler Pairs but soon found themselves 4-12 down.

There was a late rally as the Allens scored a five but Skinner and Wait held on for the win.

Craig Webb and Richard Powell battled it out with Stan Beale and Alan Westwood in the two wood Albert Duval and with the scores tied an extra end was needed, Webb and Powell squeezing home 15-14.

The final game was the shortest, just eight ends to decide the winner of the Cecil O’Boyle Plate. Cyril Wait, Brian Draper and Sue Webb did enough to close out the game against Dave Evans, Stan Beale and Craig Webb 8-4.

In an earlier game, Richard Powell and Dave Russell defeated Craig Webb and Stan Beale 10-7 in the Roebuck Cup.
