HEREFORD captain Josh Gowling says that his side need to be ‘more positive on the ball’ as they look to respond from their 3-1 defeat against King’s Lynn Town.

The 35-year-old centre back said that the Bulls hadn’t implemented what they had been working on during the defeat.

He said: “We’ve got to change a lot and be better in the transition when we’re attacking. When the ball breaks down getting into our shape early and pressing together.

“That’s something we’ve been working on and didn’t do today. We’ve got to be a bit more positive on the ball and get into positions a bit earlier, work harder to get in those positions to give yourself some space.

“We’ve been working on it in training all week, there’s no excuse we just didn’t implement it today. It was just one of those games today where they pinned our full-backs back a bit and we didn’t really get our game going.

“We didn’t get out of the blocks, we worked on a lot of things in the week and didn’t implement them on the pitch today which was very disappointing.

“You don’t go onto the pitch and not want to win but we just lost our way a little bit which is down to us on the pitch.

“It’s down to us organising, myself organising on the pitch which is just disappointing. We are still in transition and have had a lot of changes and I put it down to that.

“At the end of the day it’s about accountability, which is one of the things we touched upon in pre-season.

“It’s about being brave on the ball, wanting the ball and working, I don’t think we did that well enough today.”

Windy conditions in Norfolk led to some of the Bulls’ errors, but Gowling said his side weren’t good enough.

He added: “I’ve played in some crazy conditions before, at the end of the day we tried to get the ball down and play.

“We knew we couldn’t necessarily play long ball up to the big man because of the wind but we just weren’t good enough on the ball as simple as that today.

“We’ve got an idea of where we want to be and what we want to do and it’s definitely not that. It’s the third game of the season and we’ve just got to turn it around.

“It’s not the end of the world. We’re going to lose games this season and that’s just what it is. We’ve just got to learn from this, do some analysis with the gaffer and put it right.”
