DESPITE having a young side Ross Golf Club's men members are showing their team spirit to gain some creditable results in the North Glos Foursomes League Division 1.

The 'A' team in the care of Neil Lancett were champions for the first time last year, but a year of consolidation is the expected goal this year with a less experienced squad now in the hands of Stephen Price as captain and Simon Mills as vice captain.

With six of their 10 matches programme completed their target is justified with the team currently in third place with six points, behind the Forrest Hills and Lilley Brook Clubs who share top places with eight points each.

In their latest encounter the Ross team faced a daunting task away to Lilley Brook but returned home with a precious win by 3.5 points to 2.5 points after teenage newcomer Jayden Decloedt partnering Ross Jenkins secured a crucial win on their final hole to secure the half-point the team required for victory.

The remaining three points were achieved by Jason Bolton & Tim Wyatt 2/1, Cam Haines & Alastair Watkins 5/4 and Simon Mills & Steve Wallbank 5/3.

An 100 per cent win record in the six matches to date has been achieved by 0.5 handicapper Haines.

The club's B team play a competitive four ball better ball format in the top North Glos B team Division 1 League and in having Mark Whitmore at the helm for the second year running, they have been flying high in 2019.

After their six matches played they sit at the top of the league table with nine points from their four wins and one halved match record.

The teams latest success being a comprehensive 5-1 home win against Lilley Brook which saw the Ross points provided by Stephen Eckley & Jon Morgan 2/1, Bob Baker & Kevin French 4/2, Richard Moore & Robin Smith 4/3 and 3/2 wins by Colin Bennion & Nigel Evans and Ian Griffiths & Shaun Sturge.
