BOWLERS from across the county took part in the Herefordshire Ladies Finals day last weekend.

The finals which took place at St Martins, in Hereford saw five county finals competed for.

Brimfield & Little Hereford Bowling Club Chairman Jennie Cole had hoped to retain her County Singles title but lost out to Leominster's Tracey Powell 21-9.

The pair will re-match in the final of the Senior Singles at Kingsland.

Powell was back in action in the Two wood Singles but was beaten 15-8 by Brimfield's Barbara Griffith

Griffith retained her winning form with partner Karen Tandler in the Pairs, beating the pair from Ross, Marica Gwynne and Sue Dix, 22-11.

Cole, with Brimfield team-mates Helen Skinner and Sheila Bennett, took on Weobley in the Triples later in the day and following an extremely well fought match lost 15-9 to Brenda Havard, Christine Tilbury and Sally Stenning.

Cole, Griffith and Tandler returned to the green with team-mate Marian Wheatley on the Sunday to successfully maintain both titles, taking on Lynda Lewis, Sarie Pritchard, Linda Lewis and Lyn Cole from Ross in the Fours, winning 25 -15.

Later they took on Bodenham's Elsie Brisland, Jean Fryer, Freda Dimarco and Ann Walters in the Senior Fours winning 24-5.

All the finalists go on to represent Herefordshire in the England National Finals at Royal Leamington Spa in August.

Cole and Wheatley played the final of the Senior Pairs previously to ensure Brimfield's representation at the National Championships in all seven disciplines.

Cole said that she was delighted for her club, who still also have a mixed team in the National Double Rink.

Brimfield & Little Hereford BC have been working very closely with the Bowls Development Alliance to promote Sports England National 'Women Can' campaign to encourage more women to take up the sport.
