ON what should have been a glorious mid-summer day Sally Lawrence held her Lady Captain’s day at Ross Golf Club in extremely inclement weather.

Some 36 intrepid lady members, headed out onto a very soggy course for a shotgun start in steady rain.

However despite these adverse conditions , a lot of fun was had by all with a number of ‘cheats’- a piece of string the length of an individual’s handicap, which could be used at the discretion of each player to improve on a poor shot or the lie of the ball.

The winner of the competition was Sally Fycun with 34 points. Josie Lawrence came a close second with 33 points, followed by June Savage in third place with 30 points and Ellie Teasdale in fourth place with 30 points.

Sheila Curtis was nearest the pin on the seventh hole and Pam Duke had the longest drive on the 14th hole.

A larger group of 50 ladies played in the The Daily Mail and Club Foursomes Competition earlier this month.

The event was won by the pairing of Dinah Johnston and Lois Price with 37 points.

Meanwhile Pat Watkins and Denise Boughey were second with 34 points.

Also earlier this month the Lady Captains’s Away Day was held at Droitwich Golf Club in perfect summer sunshine.

Some thirty six ladies enjoyed playing.

The winning team was Sally Fycun, Sue Johnson and Lyn Mccoy followed by Mary Royston, Debbie Woods and June Savage in second place.

Erika Atkins won the prize for being nearest the pin.
