Wellington 0 Hereford 4 minute-by-minute updates

Our live feed has now finished.

  • IT was a comfortable win for Hereford in their opening pre-season friendly on Saturday afternoon, beating local side Wellington 4-0.
  • Hereford dominated the first half, playing a strong XI against their near neighbours, but struggled to break the deadlock.
  • The Bulls had a couple of half chances, Tom Owen-Evans' shot in the 8th minute proved an early save for Matthew Apperley, before a free kick three minutes later fails to amount to anything with an infringement spotted in the box.
  • Wellington then had their best chance of the half, as Brenden Hackett tried his luck from range, but it was too wide to trouble Brandon Hall between the sticks for the visitors.
  • Keyon Reffell, who's hoping for a better injury after struggling with a long-term injury, had a decent chance moments later, but he heads over after Reece Styche lifted the ball into the area.
  • In the 31st minute Hereford took the lead from the penalty spot. Tom Owen-Evans was brought down inside the 18-yard box, with the referee pointing to the spot. Up stepped Reece Styche who curled the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net, despite the keeper diving the right way.
  • Before half time, Wellington's Matthew Williams persevered down the right but his cross came off the boot of 19-year-old defender Rhys Davies. The corner, taken by Williams, was eventually dealt with by Hereford.
  • HALF TIME: Wellington 0 - Hereford 1
  • Almost completely changing their team at the interval, Hereford got the second half off to a good start. Just six minutes into the half and Rowan Liburd doubled his side's lead. Keiran Thomas was the man on the right who was able to swing the ball in, with Liburd well-placed to tap home.
  • Liburd almost made it 3-0 in the 55th minute, but he wasted a chance from a free kick, drilling the ball into the wall.
  • But in the 66th minute he did score his second. Thanks to some good work down the right by Thomas and Kyle Finn, Liburd was once again able to find the back of the net from close-range.
  • Paul Jones then had a great chance to pull a goal back for Welly, but he wasn't able to get the better of Hereford's keeper as he had just him left to beat. After getting a hand to the initial shot, Jones then wasn't able to find the back of the net after the rebound fell to him.
  • 11 minutes from time, one of Hereford's four trialists further added to the goal tally.
  • FULL TIME: Wellington 0 - Hereford 4
