GOLFERS from across Herefordshire have been competing to be named County Champion across a range of categories.

The Herefordshire Mixed Championship was held at Kington Golf Club recently, played in the foursomes medal format.

The best gross score of 82 were the home pair of Ruth and Kelvin Alexander, winning by one shot from Karen and Roger Darby, the Herefordshire GC, on 83.

Meanwhile Anita Dart and George Smith of Kington were third with 84.

The winners of the Weston's Cup for the best nett score was Heather Cass

and Danny White, Leominster GC, with 66.5.

Chris and Wyndham Evans, Kington GC, finished with a nett total of 69.5 which was enough for second while third place went to Pam Layton and Jake Crockett (Burghill Valley GC) with 71.

The Senior County Championship was held at Burghill Valley Golf Club where

81 competitors took part.

With a gross score of 76 Steve Wallbank, Ross-on-Wye GC, became this year's Senior Champion winning by three shots.

Andy Smart (Kington GC) took second place on 79 while Paul Cosnett (Burghill Valley GC) took third place with 82.

The winner with the best nett score was Nigel Howard 82-11-71.

Taking second place in the nett score was Kevin Doyle 80-9-71 and in third place was Brian Vaughan 89-17-72.

All of the top three on nett were from Burghill Valley GC.
