A DUO of county pupils were part of the Hereford and Worcester squad who took part in the Midlands regional round of the English Schools’ Athletic Association Combined Events Championships last weekend.

The event was held at Sutton-in -Ashfield, Nottinghamshire when Hereford and Worcester were up against six other counties – Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire- with up to 28 athletes in each of the six age group.

Hereford and Worcester fielded 16 athletes in five age groups and with four teams featuring this year, making it their biggest presence at the Midlands Region event in recent years.

Four of their athletes made it through to the National Schools’ Combined Events Championships, being held in Exeter in September.

Hereford & Worcester’s Intermediate Boys were all making their debut in this competition, with an intention to get through the two days of competition, with some events being new to them.

Needless to say many personal best times and distances were established, with the team gelling together over the eight events.

Patrick Morgan and George Harrhy, from Fairfield HS in Peterchurch and John Kyrle HS in Ross-on-Wye respectively represented Herefordshire in the team.

Sam Annis (Bewdley HS) and Alex Harman (St Augustine’s,Redditch) completed the team and they achieved fourth team position with 9823 points.
