HEREFORD FC have signed young defender and local lad Rhys Davies.

The son of legendary centre-back Gareth Davies, the 18-year-old made 30 senior appearances last year for Nuneaton and Chippenham.

Speaking to the club’s website Rhys Davies said: “It’ll be a dream come true the first time I walk out onto Edgar Street, I can’t wait to get started.

“I’m coming here to play, just because I’m a young boy, some people might think I’m not going to play every week, but my aim is to be the best player every single week, I want to be playing week in week out, I want to be having massive impacts on games.”

Davies has been schooled by the Shrewsbury Town Academy and was linked with Premier League and Championship sides this summer.

Hereford Head Coach Marc Richards said: “Rhys has got a great career in front of him, he’s a young lad who has already amassed a decent amount of games at this level and he’s really hungry to come and succeed.

“He showed a great attitude when I met with him a couple of weeks ago and he’ll hopefully be a decent addition to the squad.”

The club are expected to make more signings this week.
