PUPILS from John Kyrle High School battled tough conditions and came away with five medals from the Hereford and Worcester County Schools Athletics Championships in Worcester.

Torrential rain and high winds couldn't stop Dylan Menhennet from starting the ball rolling in the Junior Boys Hammer, becoming county champion with a throw of 51 metres and 32 centimetres and in doing so smashing the old championship hammer record by over 12 metres.

George Harrhy became a double county champion, winning both a gold in the Inter Boys High Jump, clearing a height of 1 metres and 70 centimetres and gold in the 400 metre Hurdles, finishing in a time of 65.00 seconds.

The final two medals were won in the Inter Girls shot, with Poppy Godwin claiming silver, with a throw of 8m 80cms and Emily Jarvis the bronze with a throw of 8m 69cms.
