HEREFORD FC have made their fourth new signing in a week as experienced defender Martin Riley joins the squad ahead of the new season.

The 32-year-old, who came through the youth system at Wolverhampton Wanderers has since made more than 300 appearances for clubs including Kidderminster Harriers, Cheltenham Town and Wrexham.

Riley most recently played for Alfreton in the National League North, having signed a one-year deal with the club last summer.

Speaking to the club's website, Riley said he'll bring a lot of experience with him to Edgar Street.

He said: “I’m really pleased to have agreed a deal to come to Edgar Street and am excited about our prospects for next season. I’ve played here on several occasions over the years and have always found it a tough place to come and get a result.

“I’ll bring a great deal of experience with me – mostly in the National League and League Two – and I’m looking forward to getting to know the other lads. Obviously, I already know Reece Styche and Josh Gowling which should certainly help me settle in.

“I’m already beginning to look forward to the start of pre-season training and I’m pleased to have got myself fixed up for next season, as that means I can now focus on getting myself ready for the challenges that lie ahead.”

Head Coach Marc Richards has said he's been on the lookout for more experienced players to join the Bulls, and Riley fits that profile.

“We’ve identified the need for more experience and Martin brings that in abundance," he told the club's website.

"He’s been a solid, reliable defender for a number of years and we’re delighted to have been able to bring him in.

“Much like Josh Gowling, Martin brings know-how from higher levels than we’re currently playing at and we all know the impact Josh has had since he arrived here.

“I’m sure Martin will become a popular player with supporters and with him, Josh and Jordan Cullinane-Liburd all now signed up, I think we’re already in a good place with the central defensive options we have.”

Riley joins Brandon Hall, Reece Styche and Alex Bray who have all been recruited by Head of Fooball Tim Harris and Marc Richards so far this summer.
