WESTFIELDS girls team is looking to expand after enjoying a successful first season.

The under 12 team won the league cup by beating Ross 2-0 at Edgar Street while they also finished third in the league.

But, with no under 13 division to play in locally next season, the club is looking at running a side in the under 12s and another in the under 14s age group to ensure its girls can still play competitive football.

Manager Kevin Griffin, who has been involved in girls' football for more than 20 years, said the team need more players to ensure this can happen.

"We feel the league should look to grow and encourage more girls to play," he added.

"Especially with the World Cup on its way as this will act as a boost for girls grassroots football."

The club will play matches on Sunday mornings and train from 6pm to 7pm on Tuesdays.
