LUCTONIANS' starting hooker Guy Kirkby says that his team-mates work at their best in the deciding stages of the season.

Mortimer Park is set to welcome a huge crowd on Saturday for the National 2 play-off tie between Luctonians and Blaydon (3pm kick-off).

To earn their home play-off tie Luctonians have won their last eight matches on the bounce.

"It is probably the biggest game most players have played for Luctonians," said Kirkby.

"Looking back at the end of January, it looked a tall feet to finish in the play-off position but in the last eight games we have picked up five points from most games.

"Almost everybody has been fully fit in the last month or so and it has been nice to have that consistency in the team. We have trust in our system and things have been working.

"In the last few years Luctonians have always been stronger in the last couple of months and in the run in to the end of the season.

"Whether that is fighting to stay in the league or have a chance at them top steps. That is when the squad works at its best."

Luctonians chairman Sam Whiteman said that club are expecting over 1,000 people at Mortimer Park on Saturday.

"Bring it on," said Whiteman.

"Our games have been a bit easy lately and we would have liked something a bit more challenging, but Blaydon have been in the same position in their league.

"It's difficult to know how many fans Blaydon will bring but we know the Luctonians faithful will turn out. We have had a good season and it will be one hell of a game."
