RUNNERS from across the county are preparing for this year's Shobdon Wood Race.

The popular and challenging off-road race uses forest tracks and footpaths through Shobdon Wood, just one mile out of the village of Shobdon in North Herefordshire.

This year's race takes place on Sunday, May 5, starting at 11am.

The event is approximately nine kilometres long with a few hills and stunning views of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Mid Wales.

Prizes will be awarded for top three male and female finishers, for all veteran five-year age categories and for male and female teams of three in a short presentation when all the runners have crossed the finish line.

There will be one prize per runner. There is a free race t-shirt and refreshments after the race including a well-deserved doughnut for all competitors.

Parking and registration takes place at the old Forestry Commission field centre HR6 9PB, where there are toilets but unfortunately no changing facilities.

There will be signposts for the event from the B4362. Parking may be limited so please car share if possible. Entrants are urged to allow for a 10-minute walk from registration to the start of the race.

Minimum age for entries is 15 years of age on race day. Online entries are limited to 160 but there will be on the day registration for an extra £2.
