THE HEREFORDSHIRE Golf Club welcomed their new captain for 2019 David Harrison who marked the event with Captain's Drive.

Alongside the event Alan Blake presented a new club flag to celebrate 50 years of the purchase of the land from the Foxley Estate owned by the Davenport family.

Major David Davenport and son James Davenport joined the club officials for this special occasion.

The event helped raise over £500 for the captain’s charity, which this year is Prostate Cancer UK.

Well over 100 members took part in Harrison's first official competition and the new captain thanked Dorothy Johnson and Jenny Hughes for the administration of the day.

The best score of the day was Jonny Williams with 44 stableford points, second place Connor Millin on 43 points and third Andrew Morgan on the same score.

The Captain’s Prize for guessing the correct length of his drive was won by Peter Rulton.

Ten Teams from nine clubs met for the early season Herefordshire Golf Club Senior Challenge Shield competition.

Burghill Valley Golf Club were declared the winners with the overall individual winner, team member Dave Morris.

Burghill Valley GC recently held their Greensome Pairs competition when the partnership of Wilf Jones and Tony Butler ran out winners with 39 points.

Taking second place was Jim Rushworth and Bill Bonham while in third place was Vernon Langdon and Geoff Roberts.
