- Hereford were beaten by Southport on the road on Saturday afternoon with a solitary goal from Matthew Platt separating the two sides at full time. It's the first game Hereford have lost on the road since New Year's Day.
- Hereford went into the game without Keiran Thomas and Lance Smith, both sidelined through injury. The one change from Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Alfreton saw Mike Symons drop to the bench to make way for Kyle Finn.
- Both teams struggled in the first half to get a foothold in the game, with a strong wind and dry, bobbly pitch at the Merseyrail Community Stadium making it difficult for the two midtable sides.
- Half-chances for Southport in the opening stages unable to properly test Matt Yates in goal for the Bulls.
- The best chance of the first half did fall to Hereford just before half time. Eliot Richards drilled a shot narrowly wide of the upright from the edge of the box.
- Into the second half and Hereford started brightly. A chance for James Waite just after the restart saw his header clear the crossbar after some good work by Kyle Finn to cross the ball in. A volley from Finn moments later also missed the target as the Bulls searched for the opener.
- Despite the chances for the Bulls, it was Southport who went on to control much of the second half and broke the deadlock in the 58th minute. A foul by Danny Greenslade on the right wing gifted the hosts the chance to take the lead. The ball was whipped into the box and Matthew Platt turned it into the back of the net.
- Chances for Hereford were few and far between, but were awarded penalty with less than ten minutes left on the clock after Kyle Finn was fouled in the box. Up stepped substitute Tommy O’Sullivan in front of the travelling Bulls fans but blazed the spot kick well over the bar.
- One final chance the Whites saw Tommy O'Sullivan fire wide after Mike Symons did well to knock the ball down to him from Danny Greenslade's long throw.
