MIDFIELDER Tom Owen-Evans said that the two week break between matches might have contributed towards his side's ‘flat’ performance against Guiseley.

Due to two postponement the Bulls had to wait two weeks to play another competitive match following their 4-2 victory over Darlington.

Despite eventually beating Guiseley 1-0 thanks to a Josh Gowling goal Owen-Evans admitted that his team had won ‘ugly’.

“It wasn’t enjoyable to play in and I’m sure it wasn’t enjoyable for the fans to watch it but it was a must win game for us to get us clear of the relegation zone,” said Owen-Evans.

“We have done that ugly and a couple of months ago we might have lost that game. Even though the quality wasn’t there today and we will hold our hands up and say that.

“It’s nice to get the three points and do it the ugly way. It was just a bit flat and I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because we haven’t played in a while.

“Nobody could really get going and the game was a bit dead and there wasn’t much for the fans to shout about. I can’t put my finger on it but it’s nice to get the three points when we’ve played like that.

“There is no excuses from us, we were flat and we should have done better in the game today. It must have been frustrating for the fans to watch and we did create a few half chances. In the first half particularly we had a few nice patterns of play where we got out the other side but apart from that we didn’t create a lot.

“We did nullify them and (Matt) Yates had the one at the end but apart from that they didn’t threaten us at all.

“In the form table in the last five, ten or 15 games we are up there challenging for the play-offs and there are games we have drawn where we should have won like Ashton, FC United and Nuneaton.

“If we can turn those draws into wins I’m sure we would be a lot higher up the table.”

Hereford welcomed full-back Jak Hickman into their team and Owen-Evans said that his team-mate had a good game on his debut.

“He was one of the only ones who didn’t look flat,” added Owen-Evans.

“He had good energy and looked good on the ball. For his debut considering he has only trained with us once or twice for him to fit in and play like that was very good of him.”
