DEFENDER Josh Gowling said that his ‘scrappy’ goal against Guiseley summed up the game.

A game of few chances looked to be heading for a draw before Gowling’s 80th minute bundled winner inside the box.

“My goal summed up the game, very scrappy,” said Gowling.

“I thought the defender was going to head it and he ducked out of the way as I don’t think he knew I was behind him.

“I just chested it and I don’t know what happened after that but it ended up in the back of the net. I think it was elbow, shin and knee. I knew I had to get a touch on it in the end and it went in so I was fortunate.

“We got drawn into the way they played a little bit, we watched them and knew they would change their game a little bit.

“They were a bit direct when we played them there but we knew they were going to try and play a little bit.

“We just didn’t really get going which is the frustrating but a couple of weeks ago we might have lost that so the fact we dug in, were solid and got the goal at the end was a just reward.

The win takes Hereford 12 points clear of the bottom three sides and Gowling says that the gap relieves some pressure.

“We looked at the table and knew that going into today if results went our way and we got the win that 12 points clear you are there or there about,” he added

“It was important for us but if you look at our form the past weeks and months we are up there in the form table and things are coming together.

“I’m a bit OCD about things and I set my targets every year, what I want to do and achieve. I have them in my mind and coming into the games I try and push them onto everybody else.

“We wanted to get to a point where we weren’t looking behind us but forwards and to enjoy games a bit more.

“There is pressure on every game but when you’re near the drop there is a bit more pressure.”
