ON HER maiden appearance in Hereford Couriers Running Club colours Katie Synge had a run to remember at the weekend.

She battled the wet conditions at Bideford Half Marathon and came home with the first woman prize in a time of one hour, 20 minutes and 29 seconds.

Also taking on the same distance last weekend were team-mates Jake Underhill and Paul Jones in the City of Newport Half Marathon.

Despite wet conditions Underhill clocked a new personal best time of one hour and 25 minutes while Jones clocked 1:22.20.

Closer to home athletes from across the county took part in Rhayader Round the Lakes over the five miles and 30 kilometres distances.

Despite competing against a strong field Mark Lamonby (Croft Ambrey RC) took third place in the men's 30km in a time of 1:57.20.

Just 20 seconds behind him was first veteran Barry Reynolds (Hereford Couriers) while Steven Flowers (Wye Valley Runners) took a respectable eighth place.

In the women's event over also over 30km Gemma Mallett (Croft Ambrey RC) was locked in a three-way battle for victory.

Mallett sprinted home to take second just ahead of her podium rival and 12 seconds behind the winner.

Over the five miles distance William Gore (Croft Ambrey RC) came home eighth in a time of 31 minutes and 19 seconds.

While in the women's event team-mate Robyn Gore finished third in 36 minutes and three seconds.

Hereford Couriers handed out awards at their AGM recently.

Clare Mallender won The John Norton Trophy and Ryan Lawrence The Woodford Green Cup after this seasons Herefordshire Winter Cross Country.

Male of the Year was Ryan Knight while Mallender also won Woman of the Year. Courier of the Year was handed to Ben Skinner.
