A FOOTBALL enthusiast who specialises in the Herefordshire County Leagues has put together a list of winners dating back to 1899.

Tupsley were the first winners on record in the 1899/1900 season when there was just one league running.

Enthusiast Tony Martin has been compiling a list of all the league winners by going through old editions of the Hereford Times.

However, there are some gaps in his records with the first being between the 1914/15 season and 1918/19 campaigns.

The next gap of the winners is between 1940/41 and 1944/45.

Anybody who has any records of these years can contact Tony through the Hereford Times by contacting 01432 845870.

He is also looking for the final league tables for many years prior to the 1991/92 campaign.

The records show that the HFA County Leagues were most popular in the 1990/91 season when seven division were ran.

Much Marcle and Hereford Thistle were two of the leading lights in the early years while Holme Lacy won the Premier dating back to 1928/29 before Wellington won their first title in the 1930/31 campaign.

Ewyas Harold were first battling for Herefordshire Premier honours in the 1952/53 season and have been a regular name on the county scene through the record books.

Other sides who are no longer playing but competed for county honours in the early years were Lugwardine Works, Garnstone, Jeffreys, Bulmers, Wiggin, Frome Valley and Brockhampton United.

The Army also took a double Premier Division title victory in the 1985/86 and 1986/87 campaigns.
