A RISING motocross star continued to put his name in lights by dominating his category at the Hawkstone International MX

Dominic Lancett, from Withington, was the fastest rider in the MXY2-Open category, setting the fastest time in qualifying then backing that up with two race victories to take the overall honours.

The 17-year-old, who is currently studying at Hereford Sixth Form College, rides for the KTM team.

The Hawkstone track in Shropshire sees a host of the sport's stars from across the world attend the pre-season event.

It has also been the launch pad for international careers.

The teenager was pushed the close in qualifying. His best lap of 2:14.8 just took first place from Ike Carter with 2:15.1.

In the first race, despite a second-lap crash, Lancett caught to the leader before finishing almost eight seconds clear of Carter.

The second race was also a two-way battle, with Lancett leading throughout and finishing almost six seconds ahead of Carter and an emphatic 30 seconds ahead of third place.

"I went into it with an open mind and went to see how it went as I've been training all winter," said Lancett.

"I managed to win qualifying, got two good starts and two wins. It's a new category for me and I plan to race in two rounds of the European Championship in Britain and Italy, but will see how it goes."
