A NEW ENDURANCE race starting in Hereford will see competitors from across the UK cycle from Hereford, to Pen Y Fan before walking up the 866-metre climb and then returning to the city on bike.

It is the first time the 'Across the Border' event is being held and over 500 competitors are expected to take on the challenge.

The objective of the race this year, taking place on August 4, is to raise as much money as possible for three amazing charities: Cancer Research UK, Help for Heroes and the Born Sleeping Appeal.

Those already registered to take part range from sports fanatics, to pathfinding adventurists through to people who want to raise money for reasons close to them.

Organiser Ross Dimmock said: "Sporting events are growing in popularity each year, and when looking around we have created an event which is not like any other, a duathlon with a difference!

"Having such a long ride and a daunting walk in the middle makes this a gruelling challenge but one in which people will be striving to overcome. We're doing everything possible to ensure every penny possible raised goes to the charities so we are appealing for the support of local companies.

"We currently have Radnor Hills, Trekitt and Prometheus Medical on board. There is no commercial intent for this event and it is purely to raise money for charity."

Organisers Across the Border plan to hold more events nationally."
