HEREFORD legend Rob Purdie said he 'jumped at the chance' of managing a Herefordshire Select XI to mark the 125th anniversary of the county FA.

He will be joined in the dug-out by former team-mate Ryan Green as his assistant, with both hoping to play in the Edgar Street match against an FA Select XI on February 12 (7.45pm kick-off).

"I went to watch Hereford against Brackley and asked Tim Harris about the game as I wanted to get involved," said Purdie.

"I wondered if I could play 15 or 20 minutes but when he got back to me I was asked if I wanted to be manager.

"I jumped at the chance as I miss the coaching side more than the playing side.

"I know 90 per cent of the Herefordshire select team players as I have played with or against them or having drinks.

"We have a decent squad which I think will be competitive what the FA Select XI will be.

"Usually it's the England C team comprising of under-23 players in the National League North and South."

Purdie and Green will be joined in the squad by Hereford FC players Joel Dielan, Kyle Finn, Tommy O’Sullivan, James Roberts, Kieran Thomas and Jordan Cullinane-Liburd.

Former Hereford players Joel Edwards and John Mills will also join the squad.

Westfields players include: Sam Archer-Plane, Keiron Blackburn, Craig Jones, Kane Khaki, Mills, Jamie Molyneux, Sam Rawlings and Aidan Thomas.

Representing Pegasus Juniors will be captain Kyle Panniers.

Wellington's Adam Newbury and Paul Jones are also part of the squad.

Lads Club will be represented by Adam Hockey and Kallum Wildig.

When asked if he will play Purdie added: "I will see how the game is going and whether it's right for me to come on.

"I will have to buy some boots for it first."
