SAM Pearson netted a first half brace as the 10-men of Wellington took a 2-1 victory over county rivals Pegasus Juniors.

Forward Pearson took just 25 seconds to net his first firing home from close range after the ball was cut inside from the right wing.

Despite having lots of the ball it took until the 24th minute for Welly to increase their lead when a high ball was controlled well by Pearson before the striker ran on and rounded the goalkeeper.

However, the tie turned when Sam Hunt picked up a second yellow card for dissent, which was Wellington's third sending off in three games.

That spurred Pegasus on and a minute after the sending off a corner fell down to Harvey Harris to fire into the bottom corner.

Despite Peggy looking for an equaliser the hosts held on for victory.

"We then had a lot of the ball but didn't create a lot of chances before we scored again," said Wellington manager Gary Stevens.

"I was pleased we were leading but there was still quite a lot we weren't doing, but the pitch didn't help as it was getting quite tacky.

"Pegasus came back at us in the last 20 minutes after we had a player sent off for a second booking.

"The first one in the first half was for retaliation after he pushed a player. The second one was also a silly booking as the opposition player was lying on the floor and he has gone up to him and was shouting at his opponent.

"The referee said it was for his aggressive action. He should know better than that. After the sending off it left us a little bit stretched at the back. We had plenty of possession but could have done more with it.

"Until they scored we were quite comfortable. They scored from a corner and after that they made us look uncomfortable.

"It wasn't going to be a very good game but with it being a local derby you just want to win it.

"I'm happy to just win by one goal in a derby match. We are trying to find a flow in our side which keeps changing week after week.

"The sending offs don't help and I don't know why we're having so many problems with referees.

"We need to get over that and it's all about winning games."

Elsewhere Adam Hockey scored from the penalty spot as Lads Club came from two goals down to take a 2-2 draw with Dudley Sports.

Manager Danny Moon scored the other goal for Lads Club on a rare appearance.
