HEREFORD RFC Head Coach Sean Lynn hopes his young side are 'building a good product' for the city at Wyeside.

Lynn joined Hereford in August 2017 and says that his talented side are now maturing leading to them challenging the top sides in the Midlands 1 West.

"When I first came here I knew I had a lot of youngsters but good talented ones," said Lynn.

"It's really nice to see some of those youngsters maturing really when in particular Hutch (Ollie Hutcheson) our number eight has matured, Gareth Jones and Ewan Duncan.

"They are just coming on even through they are only 19 or 20 they are really maturing because they have to, it's great.

"You've got some old boys coming back like Ollie Llewellyn, he's been playing really well and I'm starting to see I different style of play.

"He's looking really fit and fresh. Tom Ewins who has taken the captaincy role on for the second year is growing with confidence with it.

"We've got a new signing as well in Connor Sparrow who is great to have but James Stubbs has been the pick of the bunch and shown great leadership.

"I think the brand of rugby we do like to have some physicality but also we are going to try and throw the ball about as much as possible.

"I feel sometimes the youngsters have that no pressure really on the away games but in the home games they have that crowd with higher expectations and they have to deal with that really, it's tough."

Last weekend Lynn's side put up a spirited fight before falling to an eventual 55-22 defeat to Bromsgrove, after conceding three tries in the final 10 minutes.

After going behind early on Levi Hughes scored a converted try to put his side ahead and James Stubbs made it 10-5 with a penalty.

Bromsgrove then pulled away scoring three tries without reply before a penalty try brought Hereford back to 27-17. Despite conceding a further try the visitors remained in the tie and Richard Jones crossed the whitewash to make it 34-22 with 70 minutes played.

In the last 10 minutes the league leaders showed their class and pulled away to victory.

This weekend Hereford host Droitwich when Lynn hopes that his side can improve their home form.

"One thing we have set out is trying to get some points from every game really," added Lynn.

"It's a great league to be in as anyone can beat anyone. You have got to be on your game every week really. It's good competitive fixtures."

During the week Lynn works at Hartpury College and coaches their successful university side.

He says that the challenges of coaching in amateur rugby are very different to that of those posed by the students.

"I enjoy it because you have got a different type of players," Lynn added

"These players work their shifts and it's managing that instead of having the boys who are students at Hartpury. It's about managing those individual and everyone is different. For me as a coach it's as challenging here as it is at Hartpury.

"I think you've got a bit more consistency with the students and a little bit more control over their playing.

"With Hereford you haven't got as much as the boys here, they have got work and family commitments and that is local amateur rugby. We've been really lucky this year as the boys have bought into the product we are trying to develop.

"A big influence is Richard Preece, who is a big senior player who doesn't really take much credit but pulls all the boys in. Something we are looking at building a good product at Hereford Rugby for local boys to come and get involved."
