WESTFIELDS saw their title aspirations suffered a blow after losing a third home match on the bounce with a 2-1 defeat against mid-table Boldmere St Michaels.

After beating the weather to get the match on Andy Bevan was without Sam Gwynne, Paul Hurrell and Ollie Butler due to suspensions.

The hosts found themselves a goal down midway through the first half when Luke Shearer hit a superb 25 yard drive in the top corner of Keiron Blackburn’s net to give Boldmere a 1-0 interval lead.

After the break it was the visitors who once again looked the livelier outfit and Blackburn was forced into action saving well.

However, the Fields shot stopper was helpless when Ben Usher-Shipway skipped down the right hand side of the pitch and beat three men before firing home.

Bevans side played their best football in the last 15 minutes and tried hard to get back into the game but were hindered by some wayward finishing.

That was until the 90th minute when Ollie Price got down the right hand side and crossed for Aidan Thomas who coolly side-footed home.

Westfields had little time to draw level and fell seven points behind leaders Ilkeston Town- who also have two games in hand.

Next Saturday Fields are at home again to Lye Town before they go to Wolverhampton Sporting Community on Boxing Day and open up their New Year campaign with an away trip to Quorn on January 5.
