HEREFORD'S running clubs are getting a mini boom from the effects of park run.

Every Saturday, the city's free-to-enter run, a 5k around the perimeter of the racecourse at 9am, attracts more than 200 runners.

"The spin off from park run has been great news for our club and other clubs in the county," said Martin Flowers of Hereford's largest running club Wye Valley Runners. "New members are always welcome at all local clubs.

Anyone looking to get their trainers on for an organised competition in the coming weeks has a couple of opportunities ahead.

On New Year's day at 11 am from Hereford Rowing Club, the annual 10k race around the quiet country lanes of Breinton welcomes runners of all ability.

And then on Sunday, February 17, the annual Muddy Woody 6 takes place around Haugh Woods.

Entry for both races is now open - go to wyevalleyrunners.co.uk to enter or email wyevalleyracing@gmail.com for more details.
