CAMERON Hughes will remember the first ever Ross GC junior awards evening after carrying off the John Gabb Trophy for the most improved junior in 2018 and the player who gave the most to the junior section.

Cameron's handicap plummeted from 34 to 21 in a year when he won the Welsh Mini Masters and a British Junior Golf Tour event and qualified to return to the home at golf at St Andrews for the second successive year to represent the Ross Club to play two rounds in the Wee Wonders British Championships.

The club's Players' 'Player of 2018' was won jointly by Fred Unthank and Matty Dobbs in a season where Matty highlighted in winning the club's annual captain's prize event.

Rhian McGinley who finished fourth in the same event witnessed her many accomplishments being deservedly celebrated in a year which has seen her handicap tumble from 33 to 24 in winning both George & Margaret Lane and Bob Beavis Cups and the 6 holes Ladies Summer knock-out Final.

Liam Greig has been a model Ross Juniors Captain since his appointment in March and he received the Brian Huggett award to go with his David Sainsbury Cup won earlier in the year.

For the third successive year members of Ross Golf Club took advantage of the opportunities organised by their club's head professional Tim Hall to enjoy a week of golf in the Algarve.

A party of 12 members were in the care of the Tim Hall School of Golf Professional's Oli Leett and James Dobbs at the luxury five-star Penina Hotel and Golf Resort which boasts three championship golf courses in an area of outstanding Portuguese natural beauty.

For those taking part it was also perfect that supportive coaching and tuition from Oli and James meant that 'continuous improvement' was made available to everyone.

This resulted in Ross Ladies' secretary, Jenny Freel who was completing her hat-trick of Algarve golf tours and Geoff Stooke, a relative newcomer to the game returning home with honourable continuous improvement mentions from their tutors.
