HEREFORD RFC were left ruing missed opportunities as league leaders Newbold on Avon came from behind and snatched a 10-8 victory.

In a first half dominated by the Wyesiders the hosts would rue only scoring eight points from a Lewis Jordan try and a George Hillson penalty.

However, in the second half Newbold had better possession and within 15 minutes of the break had pulled back seven points with a converted try.

After a minor fracas, the visitors slotted a penalty with only minutes remaining.

Hereford pressed right up to the final whistle, in an attempt to retake the lead, but once again, trying to force the game, were unlucky and have to be content with a losing bonus.

“Same old story,” said head coach Sean Lynn.

“Newbold came to Hereford, top of the table, very physical, but we made a great start.

"First half, we were dominant, we made good carries, but lacked points.

"Going in at half-time 8-0 up was just not enough against a top of the table side, who know how to close the game off.

"It was a shame really, to lose 10-8, the boys need to learn that we must get more points from possession and territory.

"We start panicking, and try to force the game, the boys need to start learning from that.

"Things are very promising, we set a goal at the start of the season to get at least a point from every game and that is something we have done. There are positives, but we still have things to work on and will improve.”
