WESTFIELDS striker Aidan Thomas was rescued after breaking down by manager Andy Bevan and repaid the favour with a hat-trick as his side hammered Worcester City 6-1.

Thomas was travelling with Craig Jones to Bromsgrove prior to Saturday's game when their car had a puncture and risked missing Saturday's local derby match.

However, Bevan drove to collect the stranded duo allowing Thomas to net a hat-trick within 46 minutes as Fields ran riot and stunned the home fans.

“In the first half anything they did wrong we punished them for and our finishing was clinical, said Bevan.

“To go in at 5-0 ahead at half-time is a managers dream.

“In the second half we keep the ball for four or five minutes at one stage and completed 70 to 80 passes.

“We felt we could go there and had enough to get a result but four or five weeks ago we would have been happy with a point there.

“Maybe Aiden should get punctures more often to get a hat trick. His one goal was a stunning half volley outside the box which had the goalkeeper standing still until it hit the net."

Westfields were on fire from the first few minutes when Jamie Molyneux raced through and seized on a hesitant Worcester defence to put the ball neatly past the advancing goalkeeper.

Thomas was in the thick of the action after 15 minutes and when he was pushed off the ball inside the box a penalty was awarded, which Ben Hayes netted.

It came as no surprise when Westfields increased their lead in the 33rd minute when Molyneux fired home from the edge of the penalty area after an initial shot had been cleared.

Two minutes later Thomas scored his first of the afternoon when he volleyed home from just inside the penalty area to give Westfields a 4-0 lead.

On the stroke of half-time the marksman struck again with a left footed shot which gave goalkeeper Daniel Jezeph no chance.

With Westfields winning 5-0 Jezeph then raced from his goal and berated the match referee James Cox, for which he received a red card right on the half-time whistle.

After the break Westfields continued their dominance of the game and scored within a minute of the re-start when Jordan Stoddard misplaced a pass right into the path of Thomas who raced through to hit a low shot past substitute goalkeeper Sam Gilder.

Worcester did get a late consolation goal when substitute Kyonn Evans scored in the 87th minute with a solo effort but they were comfortably beaten.

This weekend Westfields are in the third round of the FA Vase at home when they host Leicester Nirvana and Bevan will have a selection headache with more that 16 players to chose from.

“We have around 220 regular supporters so to get to Wembley would be a dream," he added.

“We are a long way off but somebody from our step has got to get there.”
