- After a slow opening the visitors had the opening chance when Dion Charles was left in acres of space out wide and his whipped in cross was tipped wide by Matt Yates.
- Striker George Lloyd had the ball in the net after 19 minutes but was flagged off-side after Mike McGrath's over-head kick found the striker.
- However, Hereford's bad-luck continued when Danny Greenslade was given a red card and conceded a penalty for fouling Bradley Bauress.
- From the resulting spot-kick Dion Charles fired his side ahead.
- Southport sent a warning sign that a second goal was coming as the break approached as Charles whipped a ball into the box but Jack Sampson missed his chance to tap the ball home.
- However, the visitors only had to wait minutes for the second goal when a corner fell down to Dean Winnard to double their lead.
- Charles started the second half as he finished the first cutting in from the wing and firing over.
- Hereford still had some fight in them and Tom Owen-Evans sent a wicked free-kick into the box which missed everybody.
- However, the Bulls were caught on the break and substitute Jordan Archer strolled in at the back post before heading home unmarked.
