HIGH flying Fairfield Villa made light work of Total Motion Midland Division One strugglers Littleton when overwhelming the higher ranked side 4-1 to progress in the Smedley Crook Cup.
But Villa slipped up with a 2-1 defeat at Coventry Alvis on Saturday to stay fourth in Midland Division Two.
Villa spokesman Paul Oakes said: "In truth, we expected to beat Littleton.
"We led 1-0 at half time before Littleton levelled two minutes into the second half.
"From that point, we controlled the game and it proved a very comfortable victory."
Alfie Bloomer bagged a couple of goals with Ryan Molesworth also on target.
Another goalbound effort from Connor Collins was credited as an own goal.
Villa found the going much tougher at Alvis but Oakes explained: "We were missing four players from the win over Littleton - all through work commitments and all defenders at that.
"The Alvis opening goal left us seething because it was so far offside it was embarrassing.
"We laid siege to their goal in the second half with both Connor Collins and Alfie Bloomer having shots cleared off the line.
"But Alvis scored a second after we were caught out pushing forward before Ellis Blakemore pulled a goal back.
"Although we're disappointed, it was a great game to watch."
Villa travel to Knowle FC this Saturday in a Midland League Two match.
