A LAST gasp Connor Sparrow try sent Hereford to a first home victory of the season with a 35-29 victory over Malvern.

The Wyesiders had looked to be heading to a convincing win with a 21-3 lead in the half-time before Malvern came back and three second half tries gave them a single point lead until the dying moments.

“I guess you could call that a game of two halves,” said Hereford Head Coach Sean Lynn. “We dug in and stuck it to the end. Tom Ewins led by example all the way through and in the last minute, he really made us that try with a line break to win the game.

"Full credit to Malvern, they showed grit and determination. When we were 28-10 up, they came back to lead 29-28 with minutes to go, but our boys dug in to take the win.

"We now have to think about our discipline as we had two sin-bins again. It's a first win at home and the Hereford faithful will be happy with that.”

Despite an early Malvern penalty the hosts looked to be in control of the tie when a strong catch a drive resulted in Lloyd Gully scoring the opening try.

A powerful driving maul in mid-field produced two further tries, both credited to Ollie Hutcheson.

Malvern responded before the break before Gully put Hereford 28-10 ahead. However, 19 points from Malvern without reply saw them take a slender lead only for scrum-half Sparrow to deny them victory with a 93rd minute try.
