ALEX Parker ran over a hat-trick as Bromyard started their climb towards their targeted mid-table finish with an emphatic 54-14 victory over Herefordshire rivals Greyhound.

The hosts were rocked by a 20-point league deduction last week due to an administration error.

However, they put in a determined derby performance running over a clinical eight tries to clinch a fifth win in six games.

The win moved Bromyard back into positive figures with one point, but only five points behind the next two sides.

"Without the deduction we would be flying," said Bromyard first team manager Tom Hulburd.

"The aim is to get ourselves safe from relegation as soon as possible which looks like it shouldn't be a problem and then we can build for next season.

"We have got a lot of young players so it will almost help us to have an extra season to build those players into the team.

"The situation isn't as bad as it might seem as we probably wouldn't have been in a strong enough place to go straight back up."

Bromyard looked to control the derby try from the outset but saw an early try cancelled out by their Hereford visitors following a cross-field kick.

However, the hosts grabbed control and ran over a host of tries before half-time before continuing their momentum in the second half.

Parker scored a hat-trick while Greg Leighton scored a brace and single tries came from Rob Legge, Gareth Griffiths and Will Tomkins.

Vice captain Bobby Ralph was on form with the boot for the hosts kicking seven conversions.

Despite their emphatic form Hulburd is aware of the unpredictable nature of the Midlands 4 West (South).

"Home and away there does seem to be a big difference in teams," he added.

"We beat one team at their place at the start of the season and they put 100 points past someone last week.

"The quality fluctuates week in week out."
