BROMYARD have seen their promotion hopes dealt a substantial blow with a 20-point deduction ahead of their Herefordshire derby clash against Greyhound.

Bromyard had been in the early promotion race with four wins from their opening five games in the Midlands 4 South (West).

However, an administration error saw the league deduct Bromyard 20 points leaving them on minus four points and 13 adrift of their Herefordshire rivals.

"We put a players name down on the match card before the game but one player couldn't turn up and so we had to play somebody else but didn't change the match card," said Bromyard secretary Paul Dawson.

"We came down last season and wanted to do well in this league and go back up. Now we will do well to finish in mid-table and not go down to the bottom division.

"We've now go no chance of going up and everybody is pulling together to get enough points for a mid-table finish."

Greyhound are currently sat in seventh with three wins and three defeats from their opening six games.

Last weekend they suffered a 44-17 defeat by Bedworth with Robert Gummer and Elliot Phillips running over for the Hereford Racecourse side.

"It has been a mixed start as in rugby to step up a league is a big one but we have held our own," said Greyhound first team manager Lewis Braithwaite.

"It has been several seasons since we last played Bromyard in a competitive game. They have always been competitive games and the record probably shows that they even.

"Bromyard have a strong side at the moment while we are still adapting to the level and winning a couple and losing a couple.

"It will be a good season if we can finish just above mid-table."

Bromyard are expecting a substantial crowd for the tie for the game which is also the Vice President's Day.

"They are our nearest side so we are really looking forwards to it and we always have a good relationship with them," added Dawson.

"We have tremendous form and are very pleased with our results. We have a young squad who have came together to form good first and seconds sides."
