LUCTONIANS Head Coach Ryan Watkins hopes that his side can improve away from home and string a run of victories together before the New Year.

Two of his side's three defeats have come on the road this season while they took another convincing 40-10 win over Bournville at Mortimer Park last weekend.

Watkins' side head to Bridgnorth on Saturday, who knocked Lucs out of the North Midlands Cup and sit in third.

"They are one place above us but lost on Saturday so it could be a good time to play them," said Watkins.

"We made a few changes for the cup game but have made them back now so will be at full strength.

"In terms of points scored and points conceded we have by far the best record in the league despite a little hiccup at Sheffield.

"We have got to get our away form right and have got a really good run of fixtures towards New Year.

"I would still say that we have got the best squad in the league with the strength of our second team.

"We have got a good group of 35 players who train regularly and we have played 30 already in the first team, they are all going to be used at some time.

"They are all fit and know what they're doing so it's a really strong group."

Luctonians gradually pulled out a nine point lead against Bournville on Saturday thanks to three Sam Boxhall penalties.

Despite the home side's pressure it took them until just before half-time to cross the whitewash with Matthew Hackley marking his 150th senior appearance with a try, followed shortly after by Max Katjijeko to put his side 23-0 ahead at half-time.

With a strong wind on their backs Bournville looked for a way back into the tie and scored a penalty followed by a converted try.

However, Josh Watkins skipped past the defence to increase the host's lead back to 20 points.

Katjijeko sealed the bonus point with a run which saw him beat four men before dotting down.

Not to be outdone forward Hackley scored his second try at the bottom of a drive maul to finish the score 40-10.

"The tries first half tries were definitely a relief as we had put pressure on them and knew in the second half they would come back at us," added Watkins.

"The boys carried on in the second half and they had the wind which meant they were able to get in our half but we defended well."
