JOHN Kyrle High School pupil Dylan Menhennet finished his summer season with an eighth place finish at the English Schools Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

Menhennet threw 41 metres and 91centimetres in the Junior Boys Hammer.

In doing so the Year Nine pupil also helped the Hereford and Worcester Junior Boys athletics team become proud winners of the John Leeworthy Trophy, which is awarded to the team that amasses the most points in the minor counties competition during these prestigious National Championships.

Menhennet is currently ranked as the 18th best hammer thrower in his age group in the whole of the UK and is hoping to get a good winter season of throws under his belt at the Forest of Dean Athletics Club, where he trains, before he trials again next year for a place in the Hereford and Worcester athletics squad.

Despite only taking up the sport of kickboxing at the start of this year, Rhianna Ingram, a Year Seven student has already achieved significant success.

Ingram has been hugely successful finishing third in the under 50 kilogrammes category in the Urban Open competition in Gloucester.

She has also competed in national competitions in Bristol and Newquay.

Next Ingram will be competing next year in Ireland – on her 12th birthday.
