LUCTONIANS head coach Ryan Watkins has told fans to expect a reaction from his players after they fell to a third defeat in seven games last weekend.

After suffering a cup defeat to Bridgnorth the previous week Watkins' side were beaten 26-7 at the hands of Sheffield last Saturday.

The hosts managed to cut out the usually free-flowing Lucs attack and consistently picked up points to run out clear winners.

A late consolation try by Max Kitjijeko was all that the visitors had to celebrate during an afternoon to forget.

"It was obviously very disappointing but a credit to Sheffield as they defended really well and didn't give us options or chances," said Watkins.

"At home they are definitely a side to beat and I expect them to upset a few more teams this season.

"We lost some of our attacking options and didn't quite get up to full speed. They did a very good job of closing off the options and a credit to them.

"We were not completely off the mark and it was a credit to Sheffield that they came out very emotional and worked hard. It was probably the best defence we have came across."

This weekend Luctonians host seventh place Bournville and Watkins expects a reaction from his players.

"I don't think you can underestimate teams and there are no unbeaten team in this league," he added.

"There are teams who have been in the league above and newly promoted sides and anybody can beat anybody.

"We are just trying to get the consistency right and I would expect a reaction from us on Saturday.

"We had a good training session on Tuesday night and had to revisit some basic stuff around our attack and make sure we had the options that we need going forwards.

"It was nothing too frantic just a walk through to make sure we know what we're doing and are organised."
