HEREFORD’S Head Coach Marc Richards said that introduction of triallist goalkeeper Theo Richardson was to look at another option.

Regular goalkeeper Martin Horsell is set to return to training next week after suffering concussion during his side’s FA Cup defeat to Welling United.

The 31-year-old could have to fight for the number one shirt with loanee Matt Yates impressing at Stockport County and Richardson training with the squad while Academy goalkeeper Brandon Powell is also available for first team selection.

Richards said that the most important thing is Horsell’s welfare.

He added: “Martin’s fine and is back in with us on training evenings but not back in training yet but hopefully in the next week to 10 days he can do something physically and look to integrated him into full training.

“First and foremost we need to do the right thing for Martin to make sure he’s physically okay before we even consider getting him back into training.

“Obviously I have brought in Matt (Yates) from Derby and we have young Brandon (Powell) as well but it’s important that we look at other options as well especially with Martin not available for selection maybe after the Boston game.

“You don’t need to read into it, it’s a case of the young goalkeeper who was triallist tonight has already trained with us so it was great opportunity to see him in a game as well.”
