GREYHOUND Ladies stretched their legs at the top of the Women’s Challenge Midlands South 2 as centre Carly Whent ran over a hat-trick during their 40-24 win over Cheltenham Civil Service.

The Hereford side soon imposed themselves on the game with prop Claire Higginson finding a gap for the opening try.

Another two tries from Greyhound quickly followed with full-back Georgina Evans and centre Emma Downes both breaking through Cheltenham’s defence.

They had further chances to increase the lead but winger Zoe Whittal and Bonnie Smith had disallowed tries before Whent made it 26-0 at half-time with Smith once again kicking the extras.

However, Cheltenham made some game changing substitutions which resulted in them scoring four tries and two conversions to come back into the tie at 26-24.

After chipping away at their defence with numerous rucks Whent sprinted through the line to score with a conversion making it 24-33.

Cheltenham came back fighting but fortunately in the last minutes of the game Whent made a break and sprinted through to the try line to give her side a 40-24 victory.

Greyhound Ladies are top of the league in Women’s Challenge Midlands South 2 division after three games and welcome Dursley to Hereford City Sports on Sunday, October 21, with a 3pm kick-off.

The game coincides with a Pitch Up and Play event for girls looking to play rugby.
