THE new management team at Belmont Wanderers had a week to remember after taking over the reins with just six players to choose from days before hosting the league leaders.

A frantic week which almost saw the men’s team disband ended with a respectable 2-1 defeat to leaders Hinton Reserves.

Long-standing manager Scott Diston stepped down due to work commitments and several players also decided to leave.

New teams joint managers Micheal Prosser and Damion Gallimore were left a tough task in getting enough players signed on for Saturday’s game.

“Several players said that they were going to find new clubs and when we took over on Thursday night we had six players remaining” said Gallimore.

“We managed to get 15 players ready for the game on Saturday so we did well over a couple of days to get a team together.

“We have got some good lads as well as it was quite a good performance against top of the league. I’m quite happy with the start for the club and hopefully we can get some new players in.

“We are both new to it so have made a lot of phone calls to the Herefordshire FA getting players signed on and finding out how to run a football club so it has been a hectic few days.

“Me and Michael work together so we have been sorting it out over work. The club have also been very supportive with the Chairman and Secretary pulling their weight in trying to keep it running.

“We have been around a long time so hopefully can get players in and keep the club progressing.”

Their first game in management saw a close first half which ended goalless.

However, Hinton took the three points thanks to second half goals from Brandon Jennings and Marlon Ransome.

In reply player/manager Gallimore crossed onto the head of Jamie Baker to score for Belmont.
