BROCKHAMPTON Chairman Roy Wargen says that he still has dreams of the Parks side bringing home the Birmingham League title after they narrowly avoided relegation back into the Worcestershire League this term.

A dramatic final day encounter saw the Luctonians' first team narrowly avoid the drop and Wargen hopes their fortunes can now turn around.

He said: "There are now 24 teams coming out of the Birmingham League back to the Worcestershire and Staffordshire League.

“So with our firsts staying up we are one of the top 24 teams in the West Midlands. We are positive thinking and we have spoken to most of the players who are going to stay no problem and Daryl (Mitchell) is hoping to be here next year.

“My real dream is for Brockhampton to win the Birmingham Premier and we were runners up in 2013 and I’m not giving up on it.

“It wouldn’t have been the end of the world had we been relegated to the Worcestershire league as it is a good league and there are some good teams going to be in there.

“However, it was going to be very difficult for a Herefordshire team to go back up as you have to win the league and a play-off between the winners of the different leagues.

“Staying up is a weight of our shoulders as if we are in there we have a chance to perform where as if we’re not in there then we wouldn’t have that chance.”

Brockhampton have a range of sides through the age groups, a women's side and four senior teams.

Wargen says that the club aim to help local cricketers progress to the highest level.

They also saw opener Daryl Mitchell help Worcestershire to National T20 Cup glory this season while also playing for Brockhampton.

“It’s been a hard season but a good season running four teams on a Saturday," added Wargen.

“The Ladies team has done well and the youth section have had a fantastic season and have been unbelievable. We give local boys a chance to play cricket at the top level.

“Where we are sat geographically we are out on a limb to get players from Worcester or Birmingham to travel 50 miles away every week so we have to offer something special.

“We are really pleased to have Daryl Mitchell who went on to win the National 20/20 finals and we can say a Brockhampton player did that."
