  • ROLLING MATCH REPORT
  • Hereford fell to a sixth defeat in seven games as Chester took a comfortable 3-0 win while Mike McGrath was shown a red card.
  • In form Chester looked to make an early mark and the confidence of Dan Moon was clear as he drove his shot towards the bottom corner.
  • However, it was Marlon Jackson who had a glorious chance to open the scoring after a long Danny Greenslade throw was flicked on to the striker unmarked, but he blazed over.
  • Chester took the lead within 15 minutes when Craig Mahon jinked past the Hereford defence before squaring for Matty Hughes to fire home.
  • Just a minute after the opener Hereford almost replied as Marlon Jackson beat goalkeeper Grant Shenton to a long ball and lobbed him only for his effort to be headed off the line.
  • Jackson was in again on the 25th minute shooting across Shenton only for his effort to be saved.
  • Four minutes before the break the hosts went close again as Iwan Murray looped his free-kick just wide.
  • Referee Sam Mulhall waved away a huge penalty appeal for Chester a minute before the break.
  • Iwan Murray played through Matty Hughes into the box and just before he pulled the trigger Harvey Smith brought him down.
  • Chester started the second half on the front foot and Craig Mahon lashed his effort just wide.
  • Despite Hereford coming back into the game it was the visitors who should have had a second.
  • Lewis Hall lost the ball inside the Chester half and a quick break by Dan Mooney resulted in the winger shooting wide while under pressure.
  • Hereford's best chance of the game came after 68 minutes when Mike McGrath headed goalwards from close range but saw his effort tipped over the bar.
  • However, just four minutes later the midfielder was shown red for a second yellow card offence on the edge of the box.
  • Just two minutes later it was 2-0 after Dan Mooney played the ball over the top for John Pritchard on the left wing and he fired low and hard across Martin Horsell into the net.
  • As full-time approached the visitors netted a third off the head of Deane Smalley as they spread the ball across the pitch.
  • Substitute Jordan Lam almost had the last say but he headed Eliot Richards' free-kick just wide.
