GARETH Davies said that game management and a psychological advantage helped his side come from three goals down to clinch an extra-time winner against Truro City.

The interim Head of Football was seen shouting encouragement to his players as they fought back with a late Marlon Jackson goal was followed by a 113th minute Kieran Thomas winning header.

“Out of possession they have shown desire and commitment as they have probably got seven players that are over six foot,” said Davies

“You just jump early, stay with your man and don’t give goals away. And then when we had the ball we created so much and then there was only going to be one winner.

“And then it’s about the psychology and I was shouting they’ve gone because you’ve got to get into their heads and it gets into our player’s heads that we can take control.

“When that third goal went in I ruined my trainers, trousers and I was sliding on my knees as passion got the better of me.

“But the boys got back in, kept their shape and were disciplined.

“When we were 4-3 up I gave the ball to the female steward just to waist a few more seconds but that comes down to game management and I’ve learnt from the best.

“You’ve got to manage the linesman, the referee and shut up the opposition. I was heckling their players that they were gone and blowing. You’ve got to make them either weaker so in possession they aren’t playing as well and out of possession they are vulnerable.

“When I was a young lad I wasn’t the most gifted footballer but when I put on that shirt every Hereford fan knew I would run through a brick wall and that’s all I’ve asked of these players.

“I’m only here for a short time, don’t give me everything but you give yourself everything and I’ll keep driving and fighting for you.”

However, despite his delight at the end result Davies said he was disappointed that his side were three goals down with half an hour.

“The first thing was disappointment as I don’t expect us to go three goals down as they basically had three chances plus the one or two beyond that but we’re on top,” added Davies

“But we’re on top and if we score the penalty then we would have controlled the game. But straight after that miss we gave two sloppy goals away and we just weren’t narrow and compact and disciplined.

“To nick that goal just before half-time but when we played Ashton this club would have buckled and gone more behind but last weekend we showed desire and passion. Not just for the badge but for themselves, for the team-mates.

“We changed our systems tonight three times tonight as they were setting us different problems and we had to come up with different solutions and answers.
