WESTFIELDS manager Andy Bevan says that his team can set a benchmark for the season against title rivals Ilkeston Town on Saturday.

Fields head to Derbyshire after losing their league top spot to their hosts following a second league defeat of the season at Loughborough University last weekend.

However, they restored pride with a 4-1 league cup victory two days later.

Bevan’s side were a goal down at Loughborough before Sam Gwynne was shown a red card and the hosts doubled their lead.

Craig Jones pulled a goal back for Fields with a lobbed shot before the students sealed the win with a third.

Bevan was able to welcome Captain Khane Khaki from injury into Monday night's Midlands League Cup tie against Stourport Swifts.

Seth Antwi opened the scoring in the first minute before Ben Hayes doubled their lead with just 12 minutes played.

Craig Jones played through Hayes for his second of the night and despite an own goal from Josh Thomas to make it 3-1 Jamie Molyneux restored the three goals advantage.

"It was nice to see a reaction more than the result really,” said Bevan.

"We had 10 players unavailable on Monday so that just shows how important the squad is to us.

"We went from leaving two players out of our squad on Saturday to giving opportunities to young reserves to step up.

"It was Khane (Khaki) first game back, he had a good workout and there was no reaction from his injury.

"It's like having a new signing bring Khane into the side. Somebody with his desire and determination is great to bring back into the squad."

Saturday’s hosts Ilkeston have lost just one of their six home games this season scoring 16 goals and conceding seven.

"It will be a good game as both sides are firing well and full of confidence so I'm looking forward to it but we won't get too carried away win or lose," added Bevan.

"This weekend will be a benchmark which might show if we really are capable of pushing for the top positions.

"We have players coming back so it will be a nice selection headache.”
