ROSS Rockers had an impressive unbeaten run followed by a finals victory to clinch the County Short Mat Bowls Summer League.

The summer league saw 11 teams drawn in two divisions to play for a place in the end of season final.

In the Larks division, last year’s finalists Woolhope 2 and Ross Rockers were drawn together.

Despite losing their home match against defending champions Woolhope early in the season, Ross then went unbeaten for the rest of the campaign and rounded off with a convincing win at Woolhope to win the division from their rivals.

The Swallows division was tightly contested right to the last match with teams taking points from each other throughout the season and no team could establish a clear advantage.

By the time the last match came around the leaders Llangarron had a three-point lead over third placed Woolhope 1 and faced them at home with second placed Aston Ingham having completed their fixtures.

Llangarron held their nerve and ran out comfortable winners in the match to take their place in the final against Ross Rockers.

In the first session of games in the final the singles was a tightly fought contest with Ian Park edging it for Ross.

A convincing win for Ross in the Fours, meant that Llangarron faced an uphill task to salvage the match. Llangarron kept the Triples game tight but Ross secured the win and the Pairs was another convincing win for Ross who took the trophy for the second time.
