RELEGATION bound Brockhampton saw any hopes of a 'great escape' dashed following a four wickets defeat by bottom two rival Wellington.

Both sides desperately needing a victory to give themselves any hope of survival going into the last two games.

Brockhampton elected to bat and saw opener Alex Hinkley fall for a duck before a 60-run stand between Ian Bullock (29) and Oliver Rogoff (26) restored their hopes at 60-2.

However, three quick wickets saw the tie swing back towards the hosts only for skipper Nicholas Powell (31) and Adam Hewlett (21) to put together a partnership of 59 to help his side to 146-6.

Jamie McIlroy carried his bat with 20 runs but ran out of partners as Brockhampton were bowled out for 200 off 48.3 overs.

Powell also led by example with the ball taking three early wickets as the tie remained in the balance at 69-4 with Dominic Badger taking the other wicket and Ian Bullock two catches.

However, a fifth wicket partnership of 89 between Zahid Khan 37 and Imran Arif 63 sealed the victory as Wellington finished on 203-6.

The defeat effectively relegates Brockhampton back to the Worcestershire League due to the restructuring of the Birmingham league.
