HEREFORD fine-tuned their preparation for their opening league game this weekend with a fine 38-5 victory over Welsh League 1 East side Caerleon.

Hereford took an early lead when an inter-passing movement on the left sent Tom Starkey racing over for the first try, Ben Osbourne completed the conversion.

During the remainder of the first half the Caerleon forwards put the host's defence under a lot of pressure and before the interval they pushed over for an unconverted try.

Early in the second half Connor Sparrow ran over for an unconverted try in the corner and minutes later, Matt Milson outflanked the Caerleon defence and Ben Osbourne converted to take the Hereford lead to 14 points. Hereford completed their victory with three further tries courtesy of Levi Hughes, Jordan Sheehy and Jack Singleton.

Head Coach, Sean Lynn said, “It was good result overall, Caerleon had a big set of forwards, their set piece was very good and they gave us a tough day at the office for the first 50 minutes.

"We said we’d play it out of the back door and move their forwards about and you could see we were making inroads.

"It was really pleasing to get that win and we look forward to starting our league programme.

Hereford travel to Stourbridge Lions this weekend in their opening Midlands 1 West fixture which is a 2pm kick-off.
